Buggy... Buggy... Where are you?

On the 10th-13th April 2007, we were attending a workshop on the bugs testing for our materials. For me, I was doing the technical aspects such as compatibility testing and also stress testing.

What is software bug?

In general, we can say that software bug is an error, mistake, failure, or fault in a computer program that prevents it from behaving as intended for example: producing an incorrect result. Most bugs arise from mistakes and errors made by people in either a program's source code or its design, and a few are caused by compilers producing incorrect code.
bugs? he.. he...

What are the effects of having bugs?

Bugs can have a wide variety of effects, with varying levels of inconvenience to the user of the program. Some bugs only effect on the program's functionality, and may thus lie undetected for a long time.

What is debugging?

Debugging is a methodical process of finding and reducing the number of bugs, or defects, in a computer program thus making it behave as expected.

In computer science, a monkey test is a unit test that runs with no specific test in mind.
For me, the best part is when I was doing the stress testing. Stress testing refers to tests that determine the robustness of software by testing beyond the limits of normal operation. This is the time when I used to click here and there, without any limit, pressing all the buttons (like what the monkeys are doing during the monkey test... he he...) In fact, stress testing is a form of testing that is used to determine the stability of a given system.

Conformance testing or type testing is testing to determine whether a system meets some specified standard. Like what we are doing now, since we are currently applying SCORM 1.2 (soon we will upgrade to SCPRM 2004), we package our materials with Reload Editor, zip the file and upload our materials to the specified Learning Management System. After that, we shall get the report from ADL Test Suite 1.2.7 that conform Sharable Content Object Run-Time Environment Conformance Test and also Content Package Conformance Test. From this stage only we can verify if the materials are conforming to SCORM standards or not.

Not to mention the metadata tagging for all the assets involve in the SCO.
Interesting huh?

Watashi wa tomodachi to hanashimasu suki desu.
Dozo yoroshiku onegai-shimasu.

Those are few words that were so famous when I was in Japan. Its like an introduction to ourselves. These words were thought to us the moment we step down in Japan.
